TCS Property Management: Still a Family Affair
By Benjamin Oller, Principal at TCS Property Management ยท About the author
Business Was Always on the Menu
Growing up in a family-owned property management business was never easy. In most homes, dinner is a break from the day. In ours, dinner was the day.
The table was where the business got talked through, argued over and figured out. A tenant issue, a vendor who didn't show, an owner who needed answers by morning. My sister and I learned early that in property management, the work doesn't clock out when you sit down to eat.
Every Call Was Something
Then there was the phone. Every ring meant something, and you never knew what until you picked it up. It could be a problem or an opportunity. A win or a loss. A false alarm, a misunderstanding that needed untangling, or a last-minute reprieve.
We learned to watch an issue turn into a non-issue in a single conversation, and sometimes turn right back into an issue on the next call. Back-to-back phone calls weren't the exception. They were the rhythm of our house.
And then there were the bank reconciliations. Line by line, statement by statement, making sure every dollar was where it was supposed to be. If you've ever closed out the books at the end of the month, you understand. Those reconciliations still haunt my sister and me to this very day. We just do them better now.
The Big Brother I Was
Here's the part that would have shocked my younger self. If you had told me, back when I was the older sibling and the big brother nudnik, that I would one day be working side by side with my sister, I would never have believed you.
I was hot-headed. I was bossy. I wanted to be in charge of everything, and I wasn't always kind about it. Some of that is still in me, and my sister would be the first to tell you so.
But somewhere between the dinner-table debates and the late-night calls, something changed. We stopped being the kids who grew up around the business and became the people who run it, together.
TCS Today: Still a Family Business
Today, TCS Property Management is still a family business, with some great partners sprinkled in along the way. Those partners bring skills and perspective that make us stronger, and they have become part of the family too.
To tell you the truth, I couldn't be happier. Property management can feel like the whole world is coming at you: an emergency repair at 2 a.m., an unhappy owner, a deal that falls apart at the last minute. On those days, I feel incredibly protected, because I know exactly who has my back.
My sister is my ride or die. The same person I once tried to boss around is now the partner I trust most. We still argue. We still talk business at dinner. And we still double-check those reconciliations. But we do it as a team, and that makes all the difference.
What a Family Business Means for You
Why share all this? Because the way we grew up is the way we still work, and it shapes how we take care of you.
We pick up the phone. We grew up knowing every call matters. A problem handled early is a problem that stays small.
We treat your property like it's ours. When the business is your family's name, you don't cut corners.
We sweat the details. Those reconciliations taught us that every dollar has to be accounted for, every month.
You get people, not a call center. Behind TCS is a family and a team of partners who know your home and care how it's doing.
Whether you own one rental home or a growing portfolio, you deserve a property management company that answers the call and keeps its word. That's who we've been since the dinner-table days, and it's who we'll keep being.
